Tutorial – Changing Gradient Color

Several of you have asked how to recolor a gradient wordart, so today I have a little tutorial for you.

Begin by adding a wordart box to your page. Next scroll down to the fill option and click on the color box. This box will appear a gradient grey color.

Projects Landscape-053

After you click on the gradient box, another box will pop up that will allow you to select the color change options.  When the box pops up, click on the small white box in the left hand corner of this box,

Projects Landscape-054

When you click on the small white box, you will notice that color box will change  to white.  You will then click on the color box to get to the color palette.

Hope that helps!

Great weekend

I spent this weekend with Lisa Jurrens, a great friend whom I met online through MMS. While we didn't get tons of scrapping done, we did get some crafting done or thought about, we shopped and we got a little work done on suitegal.com. How great is this hobby where you can meet new friends and have a great time with them online and in person! Just one more reason to love digi-scrapping!

Welcome Mamabuzz readers!

If you are new to My Memories Suite or the idea of digital scrap booking, you are looking in the right place.  This hobby is one of the best ever!  You can record your history, your recent memories or your future memories in no time at all.

Two years ago I bought My Memories Suite.  I started using it and it was so simple to use.  Very little learning curve at all. I love scrapping with MMS because I can quickly scrap beautiful pages, learning the software took me no time at all, and I can be creative daily without making a big mess in my house.  Here are a few pages I have been working on recently.

I made this great page with the Earth Day Quickpages from Shabby Miss Jenn's.

Love the hopscotch kit from Shabby Miss Princess that I used on this page.

I scrapped these entirely on My Memories Suite. I haven't ever scrapped with any other program.  I do use Photoshop Elements to edit photos, and I love Photoscape for editing photos, but when I want to scrap I always turn to My Memories Suite.  I don't have to think to scrap, and when I need to relax, I don't want to think - KWIM?

Here's a little freebie for you today to help you as you get started digital scrapping.

SuiteGal Guide Download

If you haven't had the chance to check out the reviews of this great program at Mamabzz, click over their now.  Also check out all the cool stuff at My Memories Suite's website and at the MMS Facebook.  If you haven't bought a copy of this great software yet, let me assure you that
you won't regret the purchase at all.

What a whirlwind! Let’s get challenged!!

I am having a blast trying to get my www.suitegal.com classes ready to launch, but it keeping me VERY busy.  I come home from work each night, full of ideas, and as soon as my babies get planted in bed, I am working on class stuff again.

One of the things I am working on that I am very excited about is a minibook for all the “Suite” students I have in the class.  Simple at a glance reminders on how to use the software and some basic scrapbooking tips.  It’s turning out really cute.  I might try to give you all a preview in a few weeks.

As I have been working on my class, I am becoming immersed in all things scrapbooking.  I found a great site today that you should consider checking out - http://cathyzielske.typepad.com.  She has all kinds of neat items on her blog.  One of her big things is scrap simple.  I love her simple LOs.

So here’s my challenge – Scrap a page with at least four photos.  Use at least two papers and text to embellish the page.  Only use ONE embellishment, if you must use any.  See what you can do to make it simple and sweet.

Post in MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag SIMPLE.

Happy Scrapping!

        My momma…

Okay, I have an AWFUL confession.  It has been sixteen months since I started scrapping and I have never done a page on my mother!!  I know—I should be ashamed.

So my challenge for this week is for us to start thinking about our mothers.  Mother’s day is right around the corner, and we need to get in the spirit of celebrating the women that love us.
        So here’s the challenge:
        1. Use at least four different papers on this layout.
        2. Use a page border
        3. Add a picture of your mother or the person you consider to be most like your mother.
        4. Add a cluster somewhere on the LO
        5. Create a title with the word “mother” in it
        6. Journal something special about your mother that you would like others to know about her.
Post in MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag MOTHER.

        Digi Dares

Alright, when I started these dares I told you that I wanted to introduce you to some other great dares around the web.  The one I am going to introduce to you this week has all kinds of great ideas to help you get out of a scrapping dry spell.

The Digi Dares are published weekly, and each week they select some of the best from the previous week to showcase on their website.  These dares really vary in their content, but all of them tend to encourage journaling.

One of my favorite journaling pages I have ever done was one of these dares - Family words.

Here’s their most recent dare – DIGI DARE 176#

I think this one is so appropriate for the guilty mom’s club.  Here’s the basic idea – We are all divided in everything that we are committed to doing.  We have obligations every which way. So the challenge is to journal about each of the ways you are pulled.

Below are the guidelines for DIGI DARE #176 -
“So… let’s create a visual for ourselves, shall we? And when i say visual, I mean something that can give you an *instant* view into your life. Maybe a graph or a chart, maybe different segments of journaling or images… anything that shows the areas in your life that are most important to you. Where, when, how much, and by whom are you divided by or stretched between? You can show the good, the bad, and the ugly… totally up to you. Here are some guidelines that will help you get it all translated onto a layout…
        Dare Flares:
*The main design of the layout should be in the form of or based around a graph or a chart. It doesn’t *have* to be a pie chart or a bar graph… feel free to be creative here. As long as it’s something visual that clearly shows the different areas of your life.

*Each “section” of your life should contain a title (to show what that section represents).

*Each section must also be distinctive and able to stand alone. Have each section vary in size, shape, or color… use a form of measurement or number… or even images and text. Again… feel free to be creative here!

*Photos are not a must but if you choose to use them, personal and/or stock photos are acceptable.
Make it as clean and graphic as you like, or as layered and jumbled as you like. You can make it all deep and serious, or exaggerated and funny. Just make sure each area can be recognized. And as always, have FUN with it and be expressive!!! I can’t wait to see what you create!”

Post in MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag digidare176.

        Getting back in the game

Wow!  Life has been super busy around here.  I haven’t had a chance to breath in the evenings, and not a moment to scrapbook:-(

I’m going to do a scrap lift challenge for this week’s challenge.  I will link you to the original at the end of this post, and will try to get a page of my own scrapped ASAP!

        Here’s the Challenge:

        Select a solid color background.

Layer a smaller square of patterned paper (about one inch smaller on all sides) on top of the background to create a border effect.

Layer a smaller square of solid paper on top of the patterned paper on top of the second layer, again making a border.

Place a square picture on the top layer of paper.

Place three ribbons/strips of paper under the picture.

Add a cluster to one corner of the picture.

Add journaling, the date and a title.

A big thanks to Shawn Snowdon for the original page – It can be seen here.

Post in MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag scraplift1.

        A template challenge - Squares

I have been SUPER busy with trainings at work and the Easter holiday.  I am going to be out of town Wednesday through Saturday of this week too, so I haven’t had much time to scrap or blog.

Today I have a sketch challenge for you.  Have you ever used a sketch to scrap?  Here’s how I use sketches or PSE templates in MMS.  The first step is to save a .jpeg file of the sketch or template you plan to use in MMS.  Don’t worry about if the quality is poor or not because you just need it as a guide.  So here’s the template sketch that I am using today – It’s a freebie from  Simple Scrapper – TEMPLATE PICTURE.

Next I open MMS and open my .jpeg picture of the sketch or template.  I layout my photo boxes over the photos in the template, delete the picture of the template and then save the photo layout with the template name.  (Remember you have to be in Run as Administrator mode to save a photo layout)

After you have your photo layout complete, drop in your papers, pictures and elements.  Simple as pie!  So let’s see what you come up with this template challenge.

Post in MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag TemplateOne.

        Top Ten Memories for March

Alright – I am playing the fun MMS Blog Train.  Here’s how you play.  EACH BLOG WILL FEATURE A CERTAIN NUMBER IN THE POST - THE "RIDERS" MUST COLLECT ALL THE NUMBERS AND ADD THEM UP TO ENTER.  WHEN  YOU COLLECT ALL THE NUMBERS EMAIL LISA at lisaj@mymemoriessuite.com.

So hop on board! We have some wonderful prizes to give away this time! 10 lucky riders will win free $5.00 shopping coupons for the MMS Design Shop, 5 lucky riders will win $10.00 shopping coupons for the MMS Design Shop and 1 lucky rider will win the Grand Prize of My Memories Suite V2 software!

This year I determined that scrapbooking was not going to stress me out this year.  I don’t want to be a “guilty mom” who feels obligated to work on my scrapbooking.  Scrapbooking is my hobby and is not an obligation.  So I opted to do a top ten page for each month to make sure I get something done for the month.  This frees me up so the rest on the month I can do whatever I want scrapbooking.

March has been a tough month for pictures (haven’t gotten many, but I will still scrap the top TEN moments of the month). So my challenge to you is for you to scrap a top TEN memories for the month.  Scrap them and show them at the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag TEN.
Now, hop on the train and see what some of the others girls are talking about and what goodies they have for you.

Title Challenge – He said, she said….

Here’s a little challenge for you.  (I can’t wait to do this myself!)  Use the title “He said” or the title “she said”  and scrap a journaling page of some of the cute/funny things one of your favorite people has said.  If you have a boy and a girl you can split the page and do a he said/she said page. Or try a two page layout, one for each.  Can't wait to see your pages.

Post at the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag THEYSAID.

        Happy scrapping!

        Heart Layout

Alright - I have another photo layout for you all.  This was create when I saw this blog post .  I think it stinks that we can't purchase and buy great templates for MMS, but I love to recreate great templates I see.  So here's what you have to do.  Download the folder at 4shared.  Unzip it and add both files to your Page Layout Square Folder.   For more detailed instructions click here.

Now let's  do a challenge -- And I am making this up before I have done it, so bear with me.  Try to complete you layout with the following elements.

        1. Use at least three papers on your layout.
        2. Use at least three embellishments.
        3. Use a Wordart
        4. Journal and date (optional)

If you use the template for this challenge you can drop papers in to the templates by searching for your papers and adding them as a photo into the template.

        Happy Scrapping!

        TEMPLATE Challenge

Alright – I am not sure if this will work, but I really want to try it.  I wanted to test it in MMS V1, but my desktop is screwy, and I don’t have V1 on my laptop any longer.  So here’s the challenge – I have uploaded a photo layout onto 4share for you.  I love this photo layout.  I have used it for a good number of pages.  Make sure MMS is CLOSED.  Download the png file and xml file and add both to your PAGETEMPLATESQUARE folder - You can find this in the Components folder/Template folder.  After both files are copied to the PageTemplateSquare file, Open MMS and run as and administrator.

Click on Add new blank page – Scroll through the photo layouts until you find one titled 4LOP-Template 39.  Make a page with it and post it to the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag TEMPLATE.

Here are the files - you must download both files and put them both into the PageTemplateSquare folder. - 4share XML file
        4share PNG File

If that doesn't work, try downloading this Challenge Album, unzip it and add it to the My Memories Suite Albums folder in your My Documents Folder.  Then run MMS V2 and browse to find the new album. Let me know if it works for you -- This is just a trial.  If it sucks, I won't try it again.

        MMS Challenge Album

Please bear with me if this doesn’t work.  This is just a trial.  If it works I have several templates to share with you!!

Scrap Happy Challenge – 100 Things I Love

This challenge will stretch your journaling mind, but it is a treasure for your kiddos to be able to read.  My kids are only five and they love for me to read every word on a page like this.  I hope you enjoy making a “suite” memory for them on this challenge.

        1. Layer a solid background on top of a patterned background.
        2. In one corner place a photo of yourself.  You will probably want this to be a small picture.
        3. Frame the picture.
        4. Add a cluster to one side of the picture.
        5. Add a title that says “100 things I love…”
        6. Journal 100 things you love.  You can journal 100 things you love about someone, or just a general 100 things that you love.

I know it is a LOT of journaling, but the last fifty are things you might never think to put on paper.  The first fifty come easy, but the last are those things you might forget to tell about in your everyday conversation.  This will stretch you out of the ordinary.

Post your page to the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery or to FB.  Use the tag HUNDRED.

        Here’s mine.

Scrap Happy Challenge #6 – Wordart

Alright, I am not sure if you all will like this challenge as much as you’ve liked the challenges in the past, but I use this idea for a lot of gifts and for decorating my own house.  If you haven’t tried this, I really recommend trying it -  We’re going to make a wordart LO.

If you don’t want to make a wordart, check out Elegant Wordart by Bethany’s blog.  She offers a free wordart daily and has some awesome sayings on there.  I have also bought tons of her stuff through ScrapOrchard.

So for step 1 – Add a word art to your page.  You can use a premade one, or make one with the Wordart feature or the Text option.  (I personally almost always use premade ones and always pick it first because the layout of the word art will help you arrange the rest of the embellishments.)

        Step 2 – Choose a patterned background.

Step 3 – Add a solid background on top of the patterned background – Remember you can ADD AS A SHAPE on the paper tab in the resource gallery OR Add the background as a photo and expand it.

Step 4 – Outline the inner paper with ribbons.

Step 5 – Add any supporting embellishments you think it needs to be decorative.  I added a tag, some popsicle sticks and some glitter.

Step 6 – Post it on MMS V2 Flickr Gallery site with the tag WORDART.

If you make these on a rectangle LO you can print these to an 8x10 and frame it.  Make sure to check the guides for 8x10 and get all your embellies within it before printing. It makes a great gift!!  (I made this one for my 5 year old son because he liked the saying:-)  I used a kit from ValerieNDesign called Sour Kisses)

        Happy scrapping!

Scrap Happy Challenge #5 – Ribbons

Wow!  You guys turned out some great pages with the last challenge.  I have another great challenge for you today.  This will feature the shape making option in papers in V2.  Just click the ADD AS SHAPE OBJECT on the background paper tab in the resource gallery.   Add your paper as a square/rectangle and then stretch it to the length of your LO. If you are using V1, you will need to add your paper as a photo and then crop it to ribbon size.  Hope that little tip makes sense.
        So here we go…
        1.Select a solid background.
        2. Create 7 ribbons from various patterned papers.  Place them in alternating lines from the middle of the page to the bottom of the page.
        3. Add a large solid circle to the page.  This circle should be a little off centered and should span at least 2/3 of the page.
        4. Add a rectangular picture to the LO.  Layer it on the circle, at about the mid-way point of the circle and extending over the edge of the circle.
        5. Add a photo corner on the upper left hand corner of the photo.
        6. Cluster 2-3 embellishments on the lower left hand corner.
        7. Put your title on the half of the circle that is still exposed and any journaling you may want to add.  Date if desired.
Post to the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery with the tag RIBBONS.
I know this is a little bit involved, but the results will be worth it.  Here’s my LO.

Scrap Happy Challenge #4 – Pick one color

Were going to use a monochromatic theme today.  That means everything will be a shade of the same color.  So let’s start!

        1. Pick a color.  Set the background as a solid paper in this color.
        2. Select a Picture – You will use this picture twice.
        3.  Blow up the picture to the size of your page.  Change the opacity of the picture until you can see your background color through it. (You might want to change the color of the picture to B/W or Sepia to make this effect look better)
        4. Now place a rectangle of paper in the right hand corner.  Make sure it follows your color scheme.
        5.  Add your picture again on top of the rectangular paper.
        6.  Add embellishments in the  upper left corner and lower right corner of the smaller picture.  Make sure they are the same color as the rest of your LO.
        7. Title and date.
        8. Post to the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery and tag with 1Color.

Here’s a link to mine.  I love this LO of my daughter.  It’s always been one of my favorite.

        Shadowing Your Page

Since the day I started scrapbooking, drop shadows have interested me. I always incorporate drop shadows because I find them pleasing to the eye, but I have very little knowledge about the correct use of shadowing as it relates to light. Lately I’ve been reading more about drop shadowing and other types of shadowing. I’ve learned some great tips.

        • A drop shadow indicates that the embellishment, paper, or other object is not flush with the background. You use it to help create depth on a page.
        • A shadow indicates which direction the light is shining from and also helps indicate how near or far objects are from the light source.
        • The distance of the embellishment from the background determines the width of the shadow. If an embellishment is close to the background it will have a narrow shadow. If the object is further from the page it will be wider.

          If an object is:

          • CLOSER TO THE BACKGROUND use a NARROWER SHADOW
          • FARTHER FROM THE BACKGROUND use a WIDER SHADOW

        • Varying the lightness and darkness of the shadow helps indicate the nearness of the object viewer or person looking at the page. As an object gets further from the background and closer to the viewer the shadow lightens because more light can get behind the object so the lighter the shadow is. The further the object is from the viewer and the closer it is to the background, the darker the shadow will be. So, narrow, darker shadows suggest objects are close to the background. Wider, lighter shadows indicate that the object is closer to the viewer. Using varied shadows on one page creates the illusion of multiple layers.

          Remember:

          • OBJECTS CLOSER TO VIEWER use a lighter shadow
          • OBJECTS FURTHER FROM VIEWER use a darker shadow

I can’t wait to implement all of these tips in my scrapbooking.  I will be sure to show off my pages as soon as I use these tips on my pages.  If you work on layering and using shadows to indicate the layers, I would love to see your “suite” layouts!

          Happy Scrapping!

Mix and Match! There’s no catch!

Have you checked out the great paper packs in the MMS Design Shop? Some of our designers feature beautiful paper packs that don’t have any embellishments. Let this be an opportunity for your creativity to shine by mixing and matching embellishments from other kits.

          image

There are so many great designers of scrapbooking kits that it is often hard to pick your favorite. Don’t feel obligated to feature just one designer for your layouts – Mix and match embellishments and papers from your favorite designers to make the perfect page. Also consider embellishing a template page with embellishments in your stash to make it uniquely yours. Below is a Template page from the Family Defined Template pack by StoryRock. I swapped the background for one from Dana Zarling’s Champagne Wishes Paper Pack. Then I added a few embellishments from Barbara Ryan’s Sweet Girl kit. I think the final product is adorable. Switch up some of your kits, templates and embellishments today. You might be able to make some “suite” pages with them.

        Happy Scrappin’!

Scrap Happy Challenge #3 – Clusters

I was asked to add a challenge that helps you cluster.  I’m relatively new to clustering myself, but I will give you a few pointers before we start.
        • Clustering is easier when you are following a line.  Consider doing your cluster on a ribbon, some greenery or some other line so you have a built-in focal point for your cluster.
        • Pull several items to add to your cluster out of the kit you are using.  Feel free to pick a variety of items and try them all out.  If you don’t like it delete it, BUT it’s easier to have the idea come alive when you have all of the items in front of you.
        • Have fun with it!  If you hate it – delete it, but don’t be afraid to try it first.
        Now for the Challenge…
        1. Choose a background.
        2. Select a picture and add it to the lower right hand corner of the page.
        3. Add a frame on top of the picture
        4. On the bottom of the frame add a ribbon.  A curly of wavy ribbon works well.
        5. Next add an swirly embellishment on the lower right hand corner of the frame – This could be a stamp or a glittery swirl. Make sure it will overlay the frame corner on bottom and the right hand side.
        6. Add greenery on top of the swirl.  This will be the base for a flower or flowers.
        7. Select a flower or flowers and layer it on top of the greenery.
        8. Add a title, journaling and a date.
Post your picture at the MMS V2 Flickr Gallery using the tag Cluster.

I used ValerieNDesigns' Hayden Marie Mini Kit for this layout.  You can find it at Scrapable.

        Scrap Happy Challenge #2 – Three’s a crowd

        Here’s your next challenge:
        1. Select a patterned background.  Layer a solid background paper in the center of the page.  Make the solid layer smaller than the patterned paper above and below the solid paper.
        2. Add three rectangular photos in a line across the center of the page.  Add mats to these three photos.  Use stitching or staples to connect the photos.
        3.  Below the pictures, in the left hand corner, add three embellishments and a ribbon.
        4.  Above the pictures in the right hand corner add a small ribbon.
        5. Layer a round tag on top of the small ribbon. Decorate the tag as you wish.
        6. Put title on the tag.
Post to MMS Flickr Gallery.   Tag with 3_Crowd.

        Check out mine HERE.

I want to give credit to ValerieNDesigns for the awesome kit I used.  It is Whateve! Mini that can be found at Gotta Pixel.

Scrap Happy Challenge #1 - A simple seven

I LOVE speed scrapping, but can't seem to find the time.  So I've decided to start some challenges of my own.  Follow these simple steps to get a fabulous layout in no time at all.  We will post our pages to the MMS Flickr gallery to see everyone's creative interpretations!  So that we can easily find the scrap happy challenge pages, I will give you a tag for your flickr photo each challenge.  Today's tag is SIMPLE_SEVEN.

        Here are the challenge instructions:

        1. Select a background paper.
        2. Add a page border.
        3. Add two embellishments to every corner.
        4. Add four photo  boxes, staggered down the middle of the page.
        5.  Fill two photo boxes with pictures and add papers to the other two photo boxes.  (An alternative on MMS would be to add a background as a shape instead of filling the boxes with a paper - make the shapes the same size and shape as your pictures)
        6. Add an embellishment to the two paper shapes.
        7. Add journaling on left side of photos.

That wasn't too painful, was it?  Check out my results. Just have fun with it!!

Don't forget to post your finished products at MMS Flickr Group. Add the tag SIMPLE_SEVEN.

Just want to view other people's pages? Search the MMS Flickr Group for SIMPLE_SEVEN.

Been Busy crafting for Valentine's day

I haven't blog in a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy.  I have been thoroughly enjoying paper crafting of all types lately.  Here's an adorable valentine I made with ValerieNDesign's Love bug kit.

        IMG_0054

        IMG_0055

It has a huge candy bar inside.  I think it’s super cute and it was
You won’t believe it was made with an envelope.  Check out the tutorial here: Envelope Candy Bar Pocket.  I’ve made several of these for valentine’s day using some old scap paper, too.  SO SIMPLE!!  SO CUTE!!!

I’ve also made a great banner with MMS’s Cross My Heart Kit that was released on the last designer cd.

        IMG_9924

I’m going to give it away free to all my blog readers.

I’ve made several other treats too using ShabbyPrincess’s XOXO Confections kit.  They are super cute.  Have you made something cute for your honey?

A Valentine Tutorial - BLOG Train

Here's my entry for the MMS Blog Train.  I'm the first stop on the train.  Collect a special word from each of our blogs and then send an email to  lisaj@mymemoriessuite.com when you've completed the train.  All entries are entered in a contest for a free copy of MMS version 2, 14 Designer Template kits or 1 of the current Quick Design Club CD's.

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching and I am already planning my pages for February.  As I have recently posted, I am doing a top ten list for every month this year.  When I got my last Design Club CD I found a perfect template to start my month.  The kit is called “Cross Your Heart” and has super cute quilted papers with hearts all over then.  I want to show you a quick tutorial of how I made the page match my theme for the year,
Here is a picture of the page from the kit.
        image
This is going to be the first page of the month, so I am going to modify the page a little.  First I am going to delete the “Cross my heart" wordart and replace it with my own word art, using the new Word Art Designer in MMS Version2.
Here you can see that I have clicked on the Word Art Text box.  By default if added from the right hand tool bar MMS adds a box for the word art and it has a gradient color.  You can also choose word art from the left hand side toolbar.
        image
I resized the Word Art box and added my text.
        image
Next I am going to adjust the color of the text.  This option on the Word Art Designer is called Fill.
        image
To Change the color, I want to make sure the Enable Fill checkbox is checked.  This will active four options under type. You can fill it with a gradient color or color, as shown, a solid color, an image (or paper), or a texture.
The Stroke option shown allows you to trace the word art.  You can vary the width of your tracing and the color.
Next is the Shadow option, which is similar to other shadow features on MMS.
The last two options, not pictured, are the Beveling option, which give height or depth to your word art, and the Shape option.  Under the Shape option, you can choose to arc, shear or  wave your word art.  If you choose to arc it and it is long enough, it can form a circle.
Just a side note, the text option on V2 also allows you to form shapes with your text.  It provides an outside circle, inside circle, outside square and inside square option.
I have completed my wordart and am going to add a tag to begin my numbering for February.  I click on the paper toolbar on the left hand side, click the Add as Shape object box, locate the paper I want and identify the shape I want for the tag.
        image
I copy the shape three times, add my number to each box and add my pictures.  Here’s my finished product!

        Top Ten Things

I have decided to do a top ten list of activities for each month this year.  This should help make scrapping all the important events a little easier to scrap.  Here’s my beginnings…

        2010 Album-002 2010 Album-003 2010 Album-004

Have you started something new for the year?  I’d love to hear your great ideas!!

        Starting the New Year!

There are so many ideas on  the internet it can be overwhelming to decide on what you want to do with your new yaer.  Do you make resoloutions or not?  A budget or not?  Set goals?  Dream big or little?  Whew...so much to think about.

Well, after weeks of seeing and looking, thinking and praying I think I am ready to start my year.  One of the neatest ideas I have seen this year is to choose a word to define the year, rather than make resolutions.  I love this idea because it is both freeing and convicting.  Want to know my word?  Generosity - I want to become more generous in every aspect of my life this year.  I want to declutter and give all those things I don't need to someone who will use them.  I want to be more aware of the needs of others and give to them what I can.  I also want to be more generous in my prayer life.  I want to broaden my prayer life and speak to God more frequently and about every aspect of my life.  I like my choice of words for the year.

And then there's the issue of scrap booking.  I love scrap booking, but when I see challenges to do 365 day projects, my bloodpressure rises and the anxiety starts to build.  I can't take medication 365 days a year and I am supposed to, so I seriously doubt that doing a 365 day project will work for me.  The 52 weeks projects look a little more inviting, but today I saw a blog that recommended a top ten memories project and knew I had found the prefect one for me.  I CAN make a top ten list for every month of memories for that month.  Couple that with my goal to write more stories down and do a monthly round-up and I think that's all I can handle.

On a personal note we are trying the envelope budget - You can check it out here.  It is exciting to me---I love living on a budget.  My hubby pays the bills, which I also like, but I know when I am working with a budget I am really strict on myself.  This system kinda does all the grunt work for me.  It's perfect.

So what are your plans for 2010?  Goals, expectations, ideas?

        Happy New Year!

        Sarah
